Dr. John Brown became pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Monticello, Georgia in 2004.  He is a native of Macon, Georgia where he was a member of the Lynmore United Methodist Church.  He attended high school in Macon and graduated from Tattnall Square Academy.  He received an Associate of Science degree from Young Harris College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Georgia where he was also a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.  He received his Master of Divinity degree from Emory University and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary.

     After a brief career in the field of education, he entered the ministry of the United Methodist Church and he is now in his twentieth year of ministry having served churches across the North Georgia Conference.

     He loves his work as a pastor in the United Methodist Church calling it a "high honor and a privilege."  He believes that the issues we face as a society are fundamentally issues to which there are spiritual answers.

     In addition to his duties as pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Monticello he is a member of the Jasper County Kiwanis Club, the Jasper County Care Corp and a member of the Board of Trustees of Piedmont Academy.  He also serves on the Equitable Compensation Committee of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.  Previously he served as President of the Forsyth-Monroe County Ministerial Association and was named Kiwanian of the Year of Forsyth and Monroe County in 1998.

     He is married to the former Nannette DeFoor of Toccoa, Georgia and they have one daughter, Angelia.  He is a rabid fan of University of Georgia athletics and other hobbies include golf and eating good barbecue.
